In the Yucatán Peninsula, cenotes are natural wells or reservoirs formed when a limestone surface collapses, exposing water underneath. Cenotes were a major source of water and were considered sacred by the Mayans, who believed they were a gateway to Xibalbá, the underworld. The cacao ceremony was led by Amaya xxx, a local elder of Mayan lineage.
